At present, there is no local statutory registration for dietitians in Hong Kong. Therefore anyone can call themselves a dietitian or nutritionist. Some people may call themselves as "nutrition consultant", "professional nutritionist", "nutrition expert", "nutrition chef", "nutria-beautician" and "slimming nutritionist" etc. even though they do not possess adequate qualifications. They may provide incorrect or biased dietary recommendations to coax consumers to buy expensive nutrition products.
In order to assist the public to identify qualified dietitians to provide medical nutrition therapy, HKDA provides an online list of "Full Member". If any consumer is in doubt, relevant proof of qualification should be requested from the healthcare professional to protect the consumer's own rights and health.
